SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japanese refiner Idemitsu Kosan shut down the sole crude distillation unit (CDU) at its 140,000 bbl/day refinery in Hokkaido on 13 March following a gasoil leak, a company source said on Thursday.
The leakage from the 140,000 bbl/day CDU was just a few litres, and the shutdown is not expected to last more than a few days, the source said.
Secondary units at the Hokkaido refinery are continuing to operate despite the shutdown of the CDU, the source said. No information on operating rates of these units is available.
The refinery supplies oil products to Hokkaido and the northeastern region of the main Japanese island of Honshu.
Idemitsu Kosan operates four refineries in Japan with a combined capacity of 640,000 bbl/day.
