SINGAPORE (ICIS) – South Korean’s Lotte Chemical Corp has extended the turnaround at its 400,000 tonne/year No 2 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in Ulsan until the end of March because of persistently weak demand, a company source said on Friday.
The unit was shut on 7 February because of poor demand and was originally scheduled to be restarted on 12 March, the source said.
The turnaround at the PTA unit was extended because of the continued weak demand in China and supply contract issues with the firm’s customers, according to the source.
Lotte’s other 650,000 tonne/year PTA unit at Ulsan is currently running at around 100% of capacity, the source added.
