SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) will restart its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Ningbo on 16 March, after it was shut for debottlenecking on 11 March, a source close to the company said on Friday.
The PTA plant’s new capacity will be 1.2m tonnes/year, up from 920,000 tonnes/year before the shutdown, the source added.
“We will raise the operating rate of this plant to 100% at the end of March in order to test the new machinery,” the source added.
FCFC debottlenecked the PTA plant in the first half of 2012, which increased its production capacity by 120,000 tonnes/year to 920,000 tonnes/year.The PTA plant then operated at high run rates after the capacity expansion, according to data from Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
