SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thai Fatty Alcohols will shut its 100,000 tonne/year fatty alcohol plant in Rayong province in early May for about 20 days of maintenance, a source close to the producer said on Friday.
The turnaround is expected to reduce the company’s exports in May, buyers said.
However, most market participants do not expect the reduced supply to have a major impact on the market as two new fatty alcohol facilities with a combined capacity of 244,000 tonnes/year are likely to come onstream in Indonesia by the second quarter of 2013.
Thai Fatty Alcohols is owned by Thai Oleochemicals, a subsidiary of PTT Chemical.
