AMSTERDAM (ICIS)--Packaging should be designed to be recycled instead of biodegrading, a senior industry consultant said on Friday.
“I have never seen a reason why we’d like to make packaging degradable rather than recyclable,” Edward Kosior, managing director of Nextek said.
According to Kosier, speaking at the ICIS PET Value Chain conference, biodegradable packaging is ineffective because of the time taken for material to degrade.
“None of them [biodegradable packages] work quickly. It’s like throwing a banana skin on to the road because it will biodegrade eventually. It’s totally unacceptable,” Kosior said.
