HOUSTON (ICIS)--Argentina's main polystyrene (PS) producer, Petrobras Energia, stopped its Zarate PS plant this week for programmed maintenance, a company source said on Friday.
The plant stopped operations around 10 March, as expected, and it is estimated that production will resume around 20 April.
The stoppage will combine maintenance works and personnel vacations.
No shortages are expected during the outage as the producer has accumulated sufficient inventory to supply customers while the plant is down.
The plant has a nominal capacity of 65,000 tonnes/year.
Argentina has another PS producer, Resigum, but its production is only about 6,000 tonnes/year.
PS imports from Brazil reach the country on a regular basis.
