NUREMBERG (ICIS)--Epoxy resins imports from the rest of the world to the EU have dropped by 2% in 2012 compared with 2011, statistics data by Eurostat showed on Tuesday.

"The imports have dropped because we [EU epoxy resins producers] have lowered our prices to keep our customers," a major epoxy resins producer told ICIS on the sidelines of the European Coatings Congress and Show.

The price of liquid epoxy resins (LER) changed from €2,900-2,950/tonne ($3,766-3,831/tonne) free delivered (FD) northwest Europe (NWE) in July 2011 to €2,630-2,670/tonne FD NWE in March 2013.

Exports from the EU increased by 11% in 2012 compared with 2011, due to epoxy resins manufacturers shipping product between their production units in Europe and their distribution centres around the globe, the same source said.
