CHONGQING, China (ICIS)--Solvay Chemicals (Shanghai) expects its new 100,000 tonne/year epichlorohydrin (ECH) plant in Taixing, China, to start operations in June or July 2014, said a company official on Friday.
The official was speaking at the 10th Epoxy Resin and Raw Materials Forum being held in Chongqing from 21-22 March.
The plant will use Solvay’s patented Epicerol technology to produce ECH using glycerine feedstock.
Demand growth in the downstream epoxy resin industry is expected to stimulate demand growth for ECH.
The 100,000 tonne/year ECH plant in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, operated by Advanced Biochemical Thailand, a 100% subsidiary of Vinythai, also uses glycerine feedstock and Solvay's Epicerol technology.
The ECH plant in Thailand is currently running at more than 80% capacity.
Vinythai’s major shareholders are Belgium-based Solvay and PTT Global Chemical.
