LONDON (ICIS)--Acrylamide demand for European acrylonitrile (ACN) is expected to grow 2-3% per year in the long-term, sources said on Friday.
The growth rates have been attributed to new applications.
As a result, several sources said the acrylic fibre market will lose ACN market share to acrylamide in the mid-term as fibre production increasingly moves to Asia.
Acrylamide demand currently accounts for 15-20% of ACN consumption, according to market estimates.
Acrylamide buying interest is currently strong because of consumption from the downstream ore processing sector resulting from the high price of precious metals.
