SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Korea Kumho Petrochemical Corp (KKPC) will lower the operating rate of its butadiene rubber (BR) plants in Yeosu to below 40% capacity in April because of weak market conditions, a company source said.

The South Korean producer is currently running its BR plants at 60% capacity in March, the source added.

It has two BR plants in Yeosu – one has 120,000 tonnes/year capacity and the other has 220,000 tonnes/year capacity.

The company will extend the shutdown period of its smaller BR unit in April by 10 days, according to the source.

“We will bring forward the shutdown to 1 April  instead of the original schedule of 10 April, because of the weak market conditions,” the source said.

“The shutdown will last till 2 May,” the source added.
