SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Canada's Methanex said in an email statement on Thursday that its Asian Posted Contract Price (APCP) for methanol in April will be at $450/tonne (€351/tonne), unchanged from its March contract price.

Its pricing decision for April’s APCP was made following this month's discussions on the current market conditions, Methanex said in the email to its corporate partners.

Methanex uses its APCP on a CFR (cost & freight) Asia basis as a benchmark for its contracts in South Korea and Japan, with discounts given.

Several market participants in northeast Asia said the demand in April has not reached its traditional peak, because of the global economic uncertainty.

Methanex said the previous week that its European Posted Contract Price (EPCP) for the second quarter of 2013 is at €390/tonne FOB Rotterdam, up by €20/tonne from the first quarter.

Methanol is largely used in the production of formaldehyde, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) and acetic acid.
