SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Northern China producer Shandong Jinling Chemical started commercial production at its second propylene oxide (PO) unit on 27 March, market sources said on Thursday.
The 80,000 tonne/year plant is located at Dongying, Shandong province, alongside another PO unit with the same capacity, bringing its total annual capacity to 160,000 tonnes/year, or around 13,000 tonnes/month.
The company employs the chlorohydrin process (CHPO) whereby propylene and chlorine react in the presence of water to form the intermediate propylene chlorohydrin, which is subsequently dehydrochlorinated to form PO.
Both PO units are integrated with the company’s 800,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year chlor-alkali facility which produces liquid caustic soda and chlorine.
