LONDON (ICIS)--A 771,000 tonne/year methanol plant being developed by China-based company Sinopec in the country has come onstream, project engineer Davy Process Technology said on Thursday.

According to Davy, a subsidiary of UK chemicals producer Johnson Matthey, the plant is fully operational and producing at design capacity, and has been formally accepted by Sinopec.

Located in the Changshou Chemical garden complex in Chongqing, China, it is the first Davy-produced facility to use acetylene off-gas as a feedstock to produce refined methanol.

Material produced will be used at acetic acid production facilities operated by Sinopec subsidiary Sinopec Sichuan Vinylon Works, Davy added.
