SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Mitsui Phenol Singapore, a unit of Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals, cut the operating rate at its phenol/acetone plant in Singapore on 25 March, a company source said on Friday.

The plant’s operating rate was cut to 80-90% capacity because of unfavourable margins, the source said.

The plant, which can produce 300,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 180,000 tonnes/year of acetone, was running at full capacity prior to the production cuts, the source added.

Its run rate will be kept at 80-90% until end of April if prevailing weak market condition continues, according to the source.
