SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes plans to restart its methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) facilities at Ningbo on 30 March, a company source said on Friday.
The two MDI units, each with a nameplate capacity of 450,000 tonnes/year, are located at Ningbo Daxie Development Zone in Zhejiang province.
The untis were taken offline on 22 March because of hydrogen supply disruptions from supplier Linde Gas Ningbo.
Throughout the week, the production glitch has reduced Wanhua’s pure MDI spot availability, while its polymeric MDI supply has been relatively unscathed so far.
Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanesis the largest MDI producer in Asia. The firm also has plans to progressively increase the output of its MDI plants at Ningbo to 1.2m tonnes/year by end-2013.
The producer also operates a third 200,000 tonne/year MDI plant at Yantai city in Shandong province.
MDI is used to manufacture polyurethane (PU), widely used in sectors that include construction, insulation panels, refrigerator-manufacturing, footwear, automobile industries, and also for the manufacturing of paint and synthetic leather.
