HOUSTON (ICIS)--Total will provide $30m (€23m) in funding to Amyris by July, and the two will form a joint venture company by mid-year to market renewable diesel, jet fuel and other specialty products, Amyris announced on Monday.

The further investment by French oil major Total is part of a revised collaboration agreement reached last year, the US renewable chemical company said in a press release.

The renewable products to be marketed under the forthcoming joint venture will be derived from Biofene, Amyris’ renewable brand of farnesene manufactured using engineered microbes in the fermentation of plant sugar feedstock.

Also on Monday, Amyris announced it and Brazil-based sugarcane giant Cosan have agreed to expand their Novvi joint venture to include renewable additives and finished lubricants for industrial, commercial and automotive uses. Novvi currently produces renewable base oils for such markets.
