LONDON (ICIS)--An initial April European benzene contract was agreed at €992/tonne, down €62/tonne from the previous month, one buyer confirmed on Tuesday.

The contract was agreed late on Thursday March 28 at a US dollar concept of $1,267/tonne FOB (free on board) NWE (northwest Europe) and converted to the euro price at the agreed exchange rate of €1:$1.2772.

A decrease had been widely expected, as spot numbers have softened over the course of March amid lower demand from the styrene and phenol markets and weaker numbers in both the US and Asia.

Further confirmation from other players is pending.
