SINGAPORE (ICIS)--ExxonMobil shut its 450,000 tonne/year paraxylene production unit at the energy major’s Singapore Chemical Plant on Jurong Island for maintenance on 1 April, market sources said on Wednesday.

A company spokesperson confirmed that one of the “operating unit” at its Singapore Chemical Plant had been shut for a turnaround that will last about six weeks, but declined to identify the product citing company policy.

“This is scheduled maintenance. Shutting down the unit will provide an opportunity for detailed inspection of equipment normally in continuous operation, routine maintenance, and installation of facility improvement projects,” the spokesperson added.

“Unit shutdowns such as this are infrequent but are necessary to ensure continued safe and reliable operations,” the spokesperson said.

The company has informed its customers about the turnaround, the spokesperson added.

The company’s aromatics recovery facility at the Singapore Chemical Plant can also produce 240,000 tonne/year of benzene and 35,000 bbl/day of reformate.
