HOUSTON (ICIS)--Qatar's new sales and marketing firm, Muntajat, has assumed sole responsibility for marketing the linear alkyl benzene (LAB) and heavy alkyl benzene (HAB) produced by SEEF, it said on Wednesday.
SEEF produces the products at its complex adjacent to the Qatar Petroleum Refinery in Mesaieed, Muntajat said. The plant has an annual capacity of 80,000 tonnes of normal paraffin, 100,000 tonnes of LAB and 36,000 tonnes of benzene.
The LAB complex can also produce 3,500 tonnes/year of HAB as a by-product.
Muntajat was established by the Qatari government in 2012, part of a move to consolidate the marketing and distribution of the country's chemicals.
Muntajat currently handles marketing, sales and logistics for nearly 70% of Qatar's petrochemicals and fertilizers. By the end of April, Muntajat will be handling 80% of the country’s chemicals and fertilizers output, with only polymers outstanding.
“With our portfolio of products now exceeding two thirds of Qatar’s chemical and petrochemical production capacity, Muntajat is on-track to achieve the transition of all regulated chemical and petrochemical products produced in the state by mid-year," according to a statement by Abdulrahman Ali Al-Abdulla, CEO of Muntajat.
“Muntajat will play a key role in achieving Qatar’s National Vision 2030 by contributing to social, human, economic and environmental development," according to a statement by Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, minister of energy and industry. He is also the chairman of Muntajat's board of directors.
“Today the petrochemical industry is a key driver of Qatar’s growth, positioning the state as a global player in this sector," Al-Sada said.
"The downstream products created by gas feedstock are delivering value by diversifying Qatar’s export portfolio beyond LNG," he said. "In fact, Qatar is well positioned to become the world’s fourth largest chemical and petrochemical producer within the next decade through continued investment.”
