SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical plans to expand capacities for select petrochemicals in Map Ta Phut over the next few years as part of the company’s strategy to strengthen its core business, its CEO Anon Sirisaengtaksin said on Friday.
A debottlenecking process should translate to a 100,000 tonne/year increase in PTTGC’s paraxylene (PX) capacity by the third quarter of 2015, he told ICIS. The company’s current PX capacity is 1.18m tonnes/year.
Also due for completion in 2015 is a 90,000 tonne/year increase in the company’s ethylene oxide (EO) equivalent capacity, Sirisaengtaksin said.
“We are now selecting a contractor [for the EO expansion],” he said.
Meanwhile, studies are being carried out on a possible expansion of PTTGC’s polymer capacity by 15-20%, the PTTGC executive said, adding that it is “still at an early stage”.
“If this is possible, we think the project could be completed in 2016,” Sirisaengtaksin said.
