US February melamine imports up by 3.6% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US melamine imports in  February rose by 3.6% from the same month in 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

US melamine imports rose to 2,054 tonnes in February from 1,982 tonnes in the same month of 2012.

Imports rose in February mainly because of an increase in product brought in from Trinidad & Tobago. Imports from Trinidad & Tobago increased by 64%.

Exports of melamine increased by 32% in February, moving to 3,220 tonnes from 2,435 tonnes in February 2012.

Germany, the United Kingdom and Romania were the top three export destinations for February. The three countries took in 74% of all US exports during the month. 

Other destinations included Russia, Canda, Italy, Colombia, Brazil and Mexico.
