HOUSTON (ICIS)—US exports of epoxy resins increased by 48% month on month, according to data released on Monday from the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
According to ITC data, US February exports of epoxy resins were 15,155 tonnes, up from 10,267 tonnes a month ago.
Year on year, exports increased by 7.5% from 14,098 tonnes in February 2012.
A big reason for the increases came as US prices were steady despite higher costs for global feedstocks, making material more attractive.
Additionally, some buying returned from the Asian region at the end of the Lunar New Year holiday.
On the import side, volumes increased by 14% month on month, up to 7,195 tonnes in February from 6,298 tonnes in January.
Year on year, import volumes were 7.6% higher from 6,688 tonnes in February 2012.
Import material was priced at a slight discount to domestic product in February, keeping it attractive to US buyers.
Major US producers of epoxy resins include Dow Chemical, Huntsman and Momentive.
