HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylic acid exports rose by 21% in February from the same month one year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
Exports increased to 2,297 tonnes from 1,897 tonnes in February 2012, largely because domestic demand has lagged other regions. Mexico took the bulk of the increased exports in February.
Although February imports rose by 31% to 3,838 tonnes from the previous month’s 2,923 tonnes, imports were still lower by 10% year on year amid soft-but-strengthening market fundamentals including ample supply and a spring coatings-season restocking delayed by persistent inclement weather.
The glacial acrylic acid (GAA) contract range for March was $1.19-1.23/lb ($2,623-2,712/tonne, €2,020-2,088/tonne), as assessed by ICIS.
US acrylic acid suppliers include Dow Chemical, BASF, Sasol and Arkema Emulsion Systems.
