LONDON (ICIS)--Second quarter polycarbonate (PC) contract prices have increased by €0.10-0.12/kg because of higher feedstock costs and the need to recover margins, sources said on Wednesday.
Moulding grade PC prices are at €2.35-2.45/kg ($3.09-3.22/kg) free delivered (FD) northwest Europe (NWE), while extrusion grade PC settled at €2.27-2.35/kg FD NWE.
Initially targeted €0.22-0.25/kg increases could not be implemented because of poor demand and oversupply in the market, but most buyers accepted a €0.10-0.12/kg increase on the back of higher feedstock costs.
The price of feedstock benzene has come down in February and April 2013 – but it went up in November and December 2012, as well as in January and March this year, the increase from which PC producers have had to delay passing on because of weak demand.
