HOUSTON (ICIS)--French workers have filed a lawsuit in the US against tyre major Goodyear over the company’s planned closure of a tyre plant in Amiens, north of Paris, according to news reports on Wednesday.

However, Goodyear spokesman Keith Price told ICIS that his company has not received official notification of such a lawsuit and as such could not comment.

According to the reports, the workers filed suit in Goodyear's hometown of Akron, Ohio, claiming damages from the company and alleging that it infringed on obligations to consult workers over the closure.

Goodyear said in January it planned to close the Amiens facility, which produces consumer and farm tyres.

The French government failed in a subsequent attempt to persuade US wheels and tyre manufacturer Titan International to buy the plant, which employs about 1,200 workers.
