HOUSTON (ICIS)--KBR has been selected to perform turnaround services for an ammonia furnace revamp and expansion project for an agricultural products supplier in Borger, Texas, the US-based contractor said on Wednesday.
KBR will provide construction services for the project and offer management for the aspects of the shutdown, maintenance and retubing of the furnace facility. The work is expected to start in August 2013 but a completion date was not disclosed.
Company officials said the plant work is its first foray into this specific area of services and that the end result is expected to increase efficiencies of the operations and extend the life span of the furnace, which was initially designed by KBR.
“This award introduces KBR’s Specialty Fields Services into the ammonia furnace revamp business,” said Ivor Harrington, KBR Services group president. “We see strong growth opportunity in this area of turnaround execution capabilities and are committed to expanding our foothold in the ammonia industry.”
