SINGAPORE (ICIS)--National Methanol Company (Ibn Sina) will restart its 950,000 tonne/year natural gas-based methanol plant at Al-Jubail in Saudi Arabia within the first half of April, a company source said on Friday.
The plant was shut for maintenance in March for 20-30 days, according to the source.
The plant is a joint venture between SABIC (50%), PAN Energy (25%) and Hoechst-Celanese of the US (25%).
SABIC also has a methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant on the same site, which uses methanol from Ibn Sina.
Other major methanol producers in the region include Oman Methanol Co and Iran’s National Petrochemical Co (NPC).
