SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shaoxing Yuandong Petrochemical will keep its 1.4m tonne/year No 4 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant shut for at least six months to completed repair works at the unit, a company source said on Wednesday.
The unit, located at Shaoxing city in Zhejiang province, was taken off line around mid-March because of mechanical issues at one of its two compressors.
Prior to the shutdown, the unit was operating at 70-80% of capacity because of problems at the new compressor, the source said.
The No 4 PTA plant was started up in May 2012, with run rates not exceeding 50% as only one compressor was running until end-February this year, when the second compressor became operational.
