HOUSTON (ICIS)--Production at ExxonMobil’s Beaumont refinery in Texas was not impacted by Wednesday’s fire that occurred in a process unit that was down for maintenance, a company spokesperson said on Thursday.
The incident injured 12 contract employees, seven of whom were still hospitalised as of Thursday morning, said spokesperson Rachael Moore.
“We deeply regret the incident,” Moore said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the contract employees and to their families.”
ExxonMobil said it is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
“We appreciate the prompt and caring efforts of our area’s first responders from the City of Beaumont and Jefferson County who were quick to render aid and to the paramedics and local authorities for their immediate response and care,” Moore added.
