HOUSTON (ICIS)--US chlor-alkali production in March jumped by 7 percentage points to 91% of capacity, a trade group said on Thursday.
US chlor-alkali production in March was 1,043,256 tons (946,442 tonnes) of chlorine and 1,987,838 tons of caustic soda, according to The Chlorine Institute.
March’s sharp increase in production followed a 4-point rise in February, as several production facilities came back on line following planned and unplanned outages.
Demand in the US for vinyl products such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) also tends to pick up in the second quarter as the prime home construction season begins.
Major US chlor-alkali producers include Axiall, Dow, Formosa Plastics USA, Occidental Chemical (OxyChem), Shintech and Westlake.
