HOUSTON (ICIS)--Brazil ethanol exports rose by 3% in March year on year, but exports in the first three months this year were up by 80%, according to shipping data released on Friday.
Ethanol exports from Brazil totalled 78,433 tonnes, up from 76,125 tonnes in March 2012, according to data from the Williams Shipping Agency, one of Brazil's largest shipping agencies.
Brazil's total ethanol exports in the first three months soared on increased production in the country, aided by unusually dry weather late last year. Exports in January-March this year totalled 310,667 tonnes, up from 172,252 tonnes in the same period last year.
Six vessels accounted for the March shipments, with three going to North America, two to Europe and one to Africa. The largest cargos, on the Stolt Vanguard and Bow Americas, carried 55,965 tonnes to Houston.
