SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Wacker Chemie has launched its new 60,000 tonne/year vinyl acetate ethylene (VAE)  copolymer dispersion reactor line at the firm’s production site in Nanjing, China, the German specialty chemicals maker said on Monday.

The plant doubles the site’s VAE dispersion capacity to 120,000 tonnes/year, making it the largest of its kind in China, the company said in a statement.

“The dispersion-plant expansion is Wacker’s response to the rising demand for high-quality VAE dispersions, especially in China and southeast Asia’s emerging markets,” it said.

The new line’s additional capacity is aimed at meeting the strong growth in construction, paper, carpet and non-woven applications, the firm added.

The firm in February this year ramped up its VAE dispersion capacity – with an additional 40,000 tonne/year plant – at its Ulsan site in South Korea.

Wacker is also building a new 20,000 tonnes/year polyvinyl acetate solid resins plant in Nanjing that is scheduled to come on stream in late 2013, it said.

Capital expenditure for the new polyvinyl acetate solid resins plant and the second VAE dispersion line will amount to around €40m ($53m), according to the firm.
