SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shandong Lubei Chemical shut its 600,000 tonne/year sulphuric acid unit at Binzhou city in Shandong province on 24 April for maintenance, because of weak demand, a company source said on Wednesday.

The sulphuric acid unit has been taken off line for maintenance amid the persistently weak market sentiment, the company said in a statement.

The restart date of the sulphuric acid unit will depend on the market trend in the near term, Shandong Lubei Chemical added.

According to some market sources, an oversupply of sulphuric acid in the market and bearish sentiment led the company to shut its unit down to avoid making losses.
