SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s Siam Cement Group (SCG) is planning to boost its overall low density polyethylene (LDPE) production capacity by 60,000 tonnes/year to 152,000 tonnes/year by 2016, the company said on Wednesday.

The capacity expansion project is part of a baht (Bt) 2.48bn ($86.1m) investment which is aimed at boosting the company’s higher value-added (HVA) product technological capabilities, the firm said in a statement on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The company did not provide additional details on the LDPE capacity expansion project.

“This investment … allows for the production of LDPE coating grade, which is considered a HVA product that is used prevalently in the high-quality packaging for the food industry that has a high potential growth rate,” it added.
