SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s JX Nippon Oil and Energy is planning to shut its 170,000 tonne/year Group I base oil plant at Kainan and its 250,000 tonne/year Group I plant in Mizushima in mid-May for maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The turnaround is expected to last around 40 days, according to the source.

Its other Group I facilities, including a 150,000 tonne/year unit at Mizushima and a 200,000 tonne/year unit at Negishi, will continue to operate “normally”, he added.

The maintenance is expected to have a limited impact on Asian markets as the demand for base oils from regional lubricant producers is expected to weaken in mid-May when the peak demand season comes to an end, traders in Japan said.
