LONDON (ICIS)--BASF was preparing to shut down its ethylene oxide (EO) and ethylene glycol (EG) plants in Antwerp, Belgium, on Friday as planned, a company source confirmed.

"We are preparing for our shutdown…. It will go down today. The last week of May it will restart," the source said.

BASF capacity in Antwerp includes 500,000 tonnes/year of EO and 350,000 tonnes/year of EG.

The outage coincides with a catalyst change at INEOS Oxide's EO/EG Antwerp site, which has an EO capacity of 420,000 tonnes/year and 290,000 tonnes/year of EG, according to ICIS.

Dow Chemical is back up and running following a maintenance turnaround at its 165,000 tonne/year EO plant in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, a company source said.
