HOUSTON (ICIS)--Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) prices in Brazil are expected to roll over or decline slightly in May on softening market dynamics in South America, sources said on Friday.
April PVC prices were flat from March in Brazil at $2,000-2,200/tonne (€1,540-1,694/tonne) DEL (delivered) for pipe grade, local sources said.
PVC supply is better aligned with the country’s requirements after production gradually returned to normal and domestic demand eased. Production in Brazil had suffered lingering effects from the blackout of late 2012.
The 15-day planned maintenance of Braskem’s 260,000-tonne/year PVC production plant in Alagoas remains scheduled for the second half of May after being postponed from April. Other Braskem PVC plants are not scheduled for maintenance at that time.
PVC producers in Brazil are Braskem and Solvay.
