HOUSTON (ICIS)--US vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) production slipped to 804m lb (365,000 tonnes) in the first quarter of 2013, down by less than 1% from the same period in 2012, according to data received on Tuesday from the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM).

The slight year-on-year decline reflected a seasonal dip in the US paints and coatings market and also softening in that market.

The AFPM data was based on input from four companies – Celanese, Dow Chemical, DuPont and LyondellBasell.

VAM production, in thousands of pounds:

Q1 2012

Q2 2012

Q3 2012

Q4 2012

Q1 2013

808,465

760,203

774,642
