US acrylonitrile production down 13% in first quarter 2013: AFPM

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylonitrile production fell by more than 13% in the first quarter of 2013 compared with a year ago, according to data released by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) on Tuesday.

US production this year was 604m lbs, compared with 697m lbs a year ago.

Demand for acrylonitrile and its derivative, acrylic fibre, have been down this year on weak macroeconomics worldwide. US producers of acrylnitrile include INEOS, Cornerstone and Ascend Performance Materials.
