LONDON (ICIS)--Momentive Specialty Chemicals shut down one of its two acrylic acid (AA) lines in Sokolov, Czech Republic last weekend for planned maintenance, a source at the company said on Wednesday.

"It went down at the weekend… for three or four weeks," the source said.

The second line is scheduled for an annual maintenance turnaround in October, the source added.

Momentive has the capacity to produce a total of 55,000 tonnes of AA per year at Sokolov.

"Everything is according to plan…We are prepared for [the shutdown] and have stocks in control. We are a bit tight nevertheless," the source said.

AA and acrylate esters producers are aiming to regain margins in May by not passing on the full decrease seen in upstream propylene, which fell by €80/tonne ($105/tonne) compared with April.

Negotiations are ongoing.
