HOUSTON (ICIS)--Although April styrene contracts have not yet settled, one major producer has increased prices for May, following the rebound in the May feedstock benzene contract.

A second producer was also heard to have come out with a 2 cent/lb ($44/tonne) price increase for May, pending further confirmation.

However, two other styrene producers have confirmed that they will not come out with a May price increase.

One styrene consumer said it might be difficult to pass through May price increases, as suppliers are currently seeing healthy margins even alongside weak demand.

March styrene contracts were settled down by 2.25 cents/lb at 79.50-83.50 cents/lb FOB (free on board).

Initial April styrene contracts are expected to emerge this week.

Major North American styrene producers include Americas Styrenics, Styrolution, LyondellBasell, Total and Shell Canada.
