HOUSTON (ICIS)--Colombia’s sole polyethylene (PE) producer Ecopetrol is seeking to restart a small PE unit at Barrancabermeja on Sunday, a company source said on Thursday.
The smaller of two low density PE (LDPE) production units at the Barrancabermeja PE plant has been down for more than two weeks, but domestic supply has not been affected, the source said.
The company has supplied customers during the outage from existing inventories.
The affected unit (Poly-1) produces 1,780 tonnes/month of LDPE. The Poly-2 unit, which has a nominal capacity of 3,620 tonne/month, has been operating normally, the source said.
Domestic demand remains subdued, with the perception being that prices may keep going down in the short term.
