HOUSTON (ICIS)--International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) plans to close its fragrances ingredients facility in Augusta, Georgia, by July 2014, the US-based fine chemicals firm said on Friday.

IFF will be closing the plant to improve efficiencies within its ingredients manufacturing operations, it said.

"With a changing competitive environment, we have decided to streamline those parts of our business that support lower value-added, commodity-like ingredients and remain focused on those areas that are more value-enhancing," said Nicolas Mirzayantz, president of IFF’s fragrances group.

He did not comment on how many jobs may be affected or on the financial impact of the closure.
