HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports in March fell 14% over the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data made available on Monday.
US PVC producers shipped 214,481 tonnes of PVC in March, compared with 248,464 tonnes shipped in March 2012, the ITC said.
March’s figure was also 16% less than the 243,046 tonnes of PVC exported in February. However, at 772,821 tonnes, 2013 year-to-date exports are 13% higher than the PVC exports during the same period in 2012.
Canada was by far the top destination for US PVC exports in March at 41,554 tonnes. It was followed by Mexico (16,210 tonnes), Russia (15,712 tonnes) and China (14,417 tonnes).
Meanwhile, the US imported 24,147 tonnes of PVC in March, up 8% from the 22,352 tonnes imported in the same month a year earlier.
Again, Canada was the top supplier of PVC to the US at 18,181 tonnes, followed by Germany (1,772 tonnes), Colombia (1,109 tonnes) and Mexico (924 tonnes).
Major US PVC producers include Axiall, Westlake, Occidental Chemical, Formosa, and Shintech.
