HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethyl acetate (etac) exports in March rose 37% year on year, largely on increased shipments to Brazil, according to data made available on Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
Etac exports totalled 2,407 tonnes, compared with 1,756 tonnes in March 2012.
Colombia also made a big difference in etac exports, taking 362 tonnes in March this year compared with none in the same month last year.
Etac imports, usually much larger than exports, totalled 2,991 tonnes, down by 24% compared with 3,959 tonnes in March 2012. Brazil accounted for almost 70% of the decline, shipping 458 tonnes to the US to the US compared with 1,128 tonnes in the same year-earlier period.
Etac is a major ingredient in inks and coatings, particularly in nail polish.
Major US etac producers include Celanese and Eastman Chemical.
