US March HDPE exports rose by 28% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US high density polyethylene (HDPE) exports for March 2013 increased by 28% from the same month in 2012, according to data available from the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

Exports of HDPE rose to 166,475 tonnes in March 2013 from 130,084 tonnes in 2012.

Mexico, Canada and Brazil purchased the most HDPE from the US, with Mexico taking 29% of exports for a total of 49,089 tonnes. Exports more than doubled to Brazil, rising to 14,304 tonnes in March 2013 from 5,126 tonnes in March 2012.   

US low density polyethylene (LDPE) exports for March increased by 9.7% from the same month in 2012, rising to 59,598 tonnes from 54,333 tonnes in March 2012.

The top three destinations for US material were Canada, Mexico and Colombia, together accounting for 49% of exports.

US linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) exports increased by 27% year on year in March, rising to 60,058 tonnes in 2013 from 47,400 tonnes in March 2012, according to the ITC.

Mexico, Brazil and Canada were the top destinations for US material, together accounting for 49% of all US exports. Imports increased for all three countries.

Major US PE producers include Chevron Phillips Chemical, LyondellBasell, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, Westlake, INEOS, Total, Nova Chemicals and Formosa Plastics.
