HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for February were down by 18% from the same month in 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
US EPS exports fell to 6,378 tonnes in March 2013 from 7,767 tonnes in the same month of 2012.
Mexico, Canada and El Salvador were the top destinations for US exports, with Mexico and El Salvador taking slightly more and Canada taking 54% less material in March 2013 compared with the same month of 2012.
US EPS imports fell by 18% in March to 13,168 tonnes, down from 16,003 tonnes in 2012.
The Bahamas, Canada and Korea were the top importers into the US.
Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem and Nexkemia.
