US March melamine imports up by 1% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US melamine imports in March 2013 rose by 1% from the same time a year ago, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

US melamine imports rose to 2,689 tonnes in March from 2,661 tonnes in the same month of 2012.

Imports rose in March mainly because of an increase in product brought in from Trinidad & Tobago. Imports from Trinidad & Tobago increased by 46% from March 2012.

Exports of melamine fell by 19% in March, falling to 2,227 tonnes from 2,733 tonnes in March 2012.

The United Kingdom, Canada and Germany were the top destinations for US melamine, with the United Kingdowm taking 1,200 tonnes, Canada taking 356 tonnes and Germany taking 260 tonnes.

Other destinations included Russia, Colombia, Mexico, Italy, Brazil and El Salvador.
