US acrylonitrile exports fell by 6% in March from year ago: ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Acrylonitrile (ACN) exports fell by 6% in March from the year-ago period, according to data released on Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

March 2013 exports were 49,739 tonnes, down from 52,658 tonnes a year ago. Month to month, March exports rose by 130% from 21,661 tonnes in February 2013.

Compared with the year-ago period, the steepest decline came in exports to China, which fell by 71% from 7,659 tonnes in March 2012 to 2,241 tonnes in March 2013. Exports to Korea rose by 81% from 16,173 tonnes in March 2012 to 29,202 in March 2013.  

US producers of ACN include Ascend Performance Materials; Cornerstone Chemical and INEOS Nitriles. Combined, those producers have an annual output capacity of 1.46m tonnes.
