March US BD imports rose by 41% compared with year ago – ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS) – US imports of butadiene (BD) rose in March by 41% from a year ago, according to data released Monday by the US International Trade Commission.

March BD imports were 49,456 tonnes, compared with 35,022 tonnes a year ago. March imports also rose by 29% compared with February 2013, when the import figure was 38,480 tonnes.

Big increases for the month included imports from Iraq, which were up 175%, and Germany, which rose by 71%.

US BD exports fell sharply to 2,662 tonnes in March from 9,688 tonnes in the same month a year ago. All of the US BD exports were to Mexico.

US BD producers include ExxonMobil, LyondellBasell, Shell and TPC.
